Children's Room

Pre-School Program

Open to children from 2 years through 5 years of age (pre-K). Every Wednesday from 11:00am - 12:00pm, following the Roane County school schedule.

Weekly Activities:

  • Learn a new letter each week
  • Crafts relating to the lesson
  • Games
  • Story Time

Special programs for the holidays


After School Program

K-4th grade. Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30 during the Roane County school year.

  • Current events: what's happening in the world this week?

  • Community Service Projects

Summer Reading Program

  • An 8 week program that follows a state-wide theme.
  • Meets every Wednesday
  • 2 age levels
  • Children check out one book a week
  • Special guests, such as Ronald McDonald, the Gatlinburg Aquarium,  magicians and teen related subjects
  • Prizes and trophies awarded at the end of the program

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

Presented by the Roane County Literacy Council and The Governor's Foundation

What is it?

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a 60 volume set of books beginning with the children's classic The Little Engine That Could. Each month a new, carefully selected book will be mailed in your child's name directly to your home. Best of all it is a FREE GIFT! There is no cost or obligation to your family.

Who is Eligible?

Preschool children ages birth to five who are residents of Roane County, Tennessee.

What are My Responsibilities?

  1. Be a legal resident of Roane County, Tennessee.
  2. Submit an official registration form, completely filled out by parent or guardian (form must be approved and on file with the Roane County Literacy Council). Pick up forms from the Harriman Public Library.
  3. Notify the Roane County Literacy Council anytime your address changes. Books are mailed to the address listed on the official registration form.

When Will I Receive Books?

Eight to ten weeks after your registration form has been received, books will begin arriving at your home and will continue until your child turns five or you move out of Roane County, Tennessee.
